Frequently asked questions

How do I get started?

Install the extension from the Chrome Web Store, then visit claude.ai, chatgpt.com, or gemini.google.com. Open a few conversations—the extension indexes them automatically. Open Searchless three ways: click the gold notch on the tab edge (drag it vertically to reposition), click the Searchless toolbar icon, or use the keyboard shortcut ⌘⇧F / Ctrl+Shift+F.

How do I open Searchless in a full tab?

Click the expand button at the top of the side panel, or use the Searchless toolbar icon. The full-tab view shows your entire library on the left with a resizable preview pane on the right. Drag the gold handle between them to adjust the split.

Can I jump to a conversation on a different AI platform?

Yes. Click the arrow next to any library row to navigate the matching platform's tab. From a ChatGPT tab, clicking the arrow on a Claude row focuses your Claude tab (or opens one if none is open) and loads that conversation. The currently-previewed row is highlighted in the library so you always know which thread is selected.

Which platforms are supported?

Searchless works on Claude (claude.ai), ChatGPT (chatgpt.com), and Gemini (gemini.google.com). The extension only indexes conversations on these sites when you visit them.

Search isn't finding my conversations

The extension indexes conversations as you view them. Make sure you've opened the conversations you want to search; they must be loaded in the tab at least once. For best cross-platform results, ensure indexing has completed on each platform.

Do you support screen readers and keyboard navigation?

Yes. Searchless supports keyboard-first navigation and screen readers in the extension UI, including labeled controls, visible focus styles, and modal focus handling to keep navigation predictable.

Why does the extension need storage and host access?

Storage is used to save your local search index and preferences in the browser. Host permissions for Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, and searchless.app let the extension run only on those sites so it can read conversation pages you open and build a searchable index. Conversation text is indexed locally. Optional sign-in contacts Searchless.app only for authentication, account status, and subscription/Pro entitlement. See our Privacy Policy for details.

Can I delete conversations from my Searchless library?

Yes — on the free Starter plan and on Pro. In the side panel or the full-tab Chat Library (click the expand button at the top of the side panel to open it), hover a row and use the trash icon to remove it from your local index (not from Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini). You have 5 seconds to tap Undo on the toast. Clean up missing removes stale rows when the source app already deleted those threads. See Library management in the docs.

How does Pro work? What about billing?

Pro unlocks unlimited conversations, unlimited saved searches and tags, export (Markdown, JSON, CSV, ZIP), and more. Starter already includes cross-platform search, library delete with undo, and clean up missing. Subscriptions are managed at searchless.app. For billing issues, refunds, or subscription changes, email support@searchless.app.

How do I remove my data or uninstall?

Your indexed conversations are stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB). You can clear extension data from the search panel or your browser's extension storage settings. Uninstalling the extension does not automatically clear IndexedDB—clear data first if you want it removed. To delete your Pro account, contact support@searchless.app.
